Confusing Kid Trait

Ok, why is it that kids have an automatic knee-jerk response of "I didn't!" even when you were WATCHING THEM DO whatever it is they are now claiming they didn't do?

Mark and Kira just came flying downstairs with the 'noodles' they got from the Easter Bunny, Mark complete with bathrobe-tie knotted around his forehead in best ninja fashion, whaling at each other and giggling hysterically. I calmly say "I hope you guys aren't using those noodles as battle weapons" at which point BOTH of them chorus, "We *weren't!*" Like, how dare I suggest it.

Um. Guys. I was WATCHING YOU DO IT.
