Kira's Butterfly

Starting home in the car from camp yesterday, driving down the dirt road and Kira suddenly shrieks from the back seat: "STOP! Drive the car on the other side!"

As I was actually driving down the middle of the road, I was a bit confused, but she quickly clarified that she wanted me to drive down the left side. Followup conversation:

K: "I was walking down the road earlier and there was a butterfly! It's dead! Well, it's a *little* bit alive! I don't want you to run it over!"

me, now trying to drive down the wrong side of the road, watch for oncoming traffic, and catch a glimpse of a butterfly on the ground: "I don't see it."

K: "Well, it's covered up with dirt! Don't hit it!"

I hate to break it to you, darling, but if it's laying there with dirt covering it, I don't think I have to worry too much about anything *I* might do to it. mk

Hi there ~

Thanks for your comment on my blog. I don't know why you would think I'd be offended! In fact, I didn't mean to use your blog as an example. I had just read a bunch of them that day and a lot of different "accomplishments" had been stuck in my mind. If anything, I probably swing too far the other way -- I don't brag about my kids often enough for fear of being one of "those" moms.

No matter. I enjoy reading your blog, and thanks for popping over to see mine. Have a good week!

Well, at least it wasn't like when my younger sister shrieked the exact same thing at me, and instead of swerving on time, I totally SQUASHED the bitty baby in a family of raccoons that was crossing the street. Our car lumped over the littlest one as the rest of the family skittered away. I felt like a total murderer. My sister was sobbing in the car next to me. It was horrible.

Glad you missed the butterfly even if it might've been dead anyway.
